Who we are
Calderwood Partners is the controller of the personal data described here. You can contact us about this notice at info@calderwoodpartners.com.
What we hold and where it comes from
For company owners and directors we may write to, we hold your name, your role, the company you are associated with and a business contact address. This comes from public sources, principally the Companies House register and company websites. If you correspond with us, we also keep that correspondence.
Why, and on what basis
We use this information to contact you about advising on the sale of your business. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests under the UK GDPR: we have a genuine business reason to make the approach, it concerns you in your professional capacity, and you can ask us to stop at any time. Where you become a client, we process your data to perform our engagement and to meet our legal obligations.
Enquiries and guides
If you send us an enquiry through this website, we receive your name, email address, any telephone number you give and your message, and use them to reply to you; our basis is legitimate interests. If you ask for one of our guides, we record your name, email address, any company you give, which guide you asked for, when, and whether you clicked the link we sent. We use these to send you the guide, on the basis of legitimate interests.
If you tick the box asking for further emails, we will send you occasional emails about selling a business and our market data, on the basis of your consent. We record the wording you agreed to and when. You can withdraw that consent at any time by replying to any email or writing to info@calderwoodpartners.com, and we will stop.
These details are held on Amazon Web Services in the United Kingdom, and emails are sent through Amazon’s email service. Guide requests without consent to further emails are deleted after twelve months; the rest are kept until you withdraw consent or ask us to delete them.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us operate, such as our email provider, and, with a client’s agreement, with prospective buyers and professional advisers during a transaction.
How long we keep it
Prospect details are kept for no longer than two years without a reply, and removed at once if you ask. Client records are kept for as long as the law requires, usually six years after an engagement ends.
Your rights
You may ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, or object to our using it. Objecting to direct contact is absolute: tell us and we will stop. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
